NASEBY PARK, GLASGOW
Naseby Park, Marlborough Avenue, Glasgow
July 2020 — The Glasgow Parks Lockdown Series
Framed by its canopy of cherry trees, Naseby Park is the quiet heart of its West End neighbourhood. In July 2020, as strict lockdown rules kept us locked out of each other's homes, this patch of grass became something vital: a place to simply be outside together, reconnecting with friendly faces at a safe distance.
More than an illustration, this print acts as a social document—a record of a moment when life slowed down, screen glare was traded for tree shade, and we rediscovered the green spaces right on our doorstep. Have we forgotten those lessons already as the rush has returned?
Look closely at the scene to find the unscripted stories of that strange summer: elderly ladies taking slow laps with their old dogs; a kid playing in a tree; and across the lawn, a family gathered so grandparents could meet their newborn grandchild for the very first time—outdoors, because they couldn't meet inside.
It’s an invitation to stop, stare, and remember the everyday beauty we walk past when we're glued to our phones.
