June 2021 — The Glasgow Parks COVID-19 Lockdown Series

Tucked away behind sandstone terraces, Dowanhill Park is an intimate, tree-shaded sanctuary in the heart of the West End. By June 2021, as summer arrived and months of heavy COVID-19 lockdown restrictions began to soften, this quiet neighbourhood green became an essential refuge to catch our breath and gently recalibrate.

This print captures a community easing into a lighter, unhurried rhythm as the city cautiously reopened. After a long period of enforced isolation, the park transformed into a backdrop for the simple, spontaneous encounters we had missed for so long—a space where daily routines softened into moments of genuine connection.

Look closely at the scene to find these quiet, everyday interactions: dog-owning neighbours linger to chat while their pets greet each other on the grass; nearby, people sit alone or in pairs on the park benches, simply taking a moment to "be"—soaking up the early summer sun, listening to the breeze in the canopy, and letting the stress of lockdown fade into the background.

It serves as a peaceful visual record of a neighbourhood finding its balance again after months apart: a reminder of how vital these small green pockets were for stillness, conversation, and quiet restoration.
