CROSS-LEAVED HEATHER (Erica tetralix)

Cross-Leaved Heather (Erica tetralix) - Botanical Illustration Print

Clusters of waxy, pale pink, bell-shaped flowers held above downy grey-green leaves arranged in neat, four-part crosses along the stem.

Look closely at this quiet resident of Scotland’s wet bogs and moorlands, and a precise architectural order unfolds. Designed to master waterlogged peaty soils, its fine leaves form neat cross-like whorls that shed heavy rains, while its downward-nodding urns safeguard precious pollen from damp upland mists.

Hanging this illustration in your space creates a quiet anchor for reflection—a daily invitation to pause, appreciate the delicate geometry hidden in wild, damp places, and stay connected to the subtle rhythms of our upland landscapes.

Part of an ongoing botanical illustration series celebrating the detail, resilience, and overlooked drama of native plant life.

The Artistic Process & Technique

100% Hand-Drawn (Zero AI): Every line and detail is drawn by hand by the artist. The artist never uses artificial intelligence, automated generation, or algorithmic filters at any stage of the process.
